INDOOR ENVIRONMENT
"To assist a child we must provide him with an environment which will enable him to develop freely.” - Maria Montessori
At Little Sponges ~ Montessori At Home, the indoor environment is carefully prepared to enable it to be a nourishing place for the child.
A child’s mind is constantly absorbing all the experiences in the environment which lays the foundations for later learning experiences. Hence the quality of a child’s early environment is of vital importance.
The basic elements of a Montessori prepared environment are:-
Freedom, Structure and Order, Reality and Nature,
Beauty and Atmosphere and the Montessori materials.
The Montessori classroom provides freedom for the child to engage in spontaneous activity and through a structured and ordered environment, children learn to build up their own mental order.
Through active exploration of the Montessori educational materials, coupled with the self-correcting nature of these specialist materials, the child develops a great deal of control over his/her own learning, growing in confidence and independence.
The features of a carefully prepared environment make for a calm and peaceful atmosphere, allowing children to develop naturally and joyously.
